Papparich

A cold, rainy, Sunday meant a day spent in the warmth of a cinema, watching Gatsby, weeks after the rest of the world. Thank you, Australian cinemas. Despite the negativity I'd heard about it, I liked it. The soundtrack, particularly, was phenomenal.

Anyhow, we ran over from the cinemas (in the rain) to try out the new Malaysian place from Melbourne we had all been wanting to try after hearing so much, which had just opened in Chatswood. I've been searching for good Malaysian/ Singaporean food since I moved to Australia. To get there, we walked along Albert Avenue until we saw the police station, then turned left and it was right there! There was quite a few people queuing up to get a table, but we managed to get one within ten minutes, probably due to the rain and the slight trek it was from Westfield.

We ordered three dishes between the four of us, as well as a Roti Canai and a dessert to share. We ordered a Nasi Lemak with fried chicken, Pappa Special Nasi Lemak and Pappa Special Briyani. The special Nasi Lemak came with curry chicken and sambal prawns, and the Briyani with sambal eggplant, fried chicken and sambal prawns. The nasi lemak was pretty good- chicken was crispy and the portions were nice and big. We all finished staggering out of the restaurant, barely able to walk.

We decided not to go for the typical curry roti canai, so instead ordered the roti telur bawang, which is roti canai with egg and onions inside. This wasn't the best we'd tried. It was quite dense and not flaky at all. The dessert however redeemed my impression of the place- the roti canai was flaky, and it wasn't too sweet.
